«Entre deux statues colossales»: Kymè d’Éolide honore Mikythos de Magnésie

Kymè of Aeolis offered the Magnete Mikythos the double honour of the statue and the epigram that subtly revealed the reasons for it: the origin of the decision, the justice rendered with efficiency probably in the other city, as well as the recognized excellence of his house, especially of the maternal line: he undoubtedly shared with them the athletic prowess in the race that had earned his uncles the honour of large statues depicting them with the hoplite shield. The monumental group they formed, those of the uncles flanking that of Mikythos on either side, further enhanced his glory.
