An Honorific Decree from Laodikeia on the Lykos
DOI:
https://doi.org/10.36991/PHILIA.202313Abstract
The author offers a full re-edition of a newly discovered inscription from La-odikeia on the Lykos, preserved in three fragments, only two of which were recognised by the first editor as belonging to the text. The inscription is an honorific decree of the mid-second century AD for a civic benefactor named Amphilochos, who had held the civic magis-tracies of exetastēs, ephebarch, and dekaprōtos; the author provides parallels for the formu-laic language of the decree, and discusses Amphilochos’ more unusual gifts to the city, which include a statue-group of Homeric heroes and a mule and muleteer for the cursus pub-licus..
