Le toponyme Magastara (territoire de Sagalassos)
Jean-Sébastien BALZAT 149–151 | Download
Abstract: In an inscription discovered in the environs of Burdur, G. Bean suggested the reading of the ethnic Μαγασταρεύς and assigned the toponym Magastara to an ancient settlement located in the territory of Sagalassos. Based on an overlooked edition of the relevant inscription the author proposes to read, instead of an ethnic, the anthroponym Magasilbis, a variant of the name Magisilbis attested in a 3rd c. BC inscription of Sagalassos.
Keywords: Magastara; Toponym; Anthroponym; Pisidia; Sepulchral inscription; Magisilbis.
